DOKA - CYCLI

Instrumental psychedelic basement project by Dutch artist Marijn Filius. Inspired by the feeling of freedom you get when alone in a car on a long stretch of asphalt under a night sky. The fuzzy, noodling guitars swirl away on a lazy motorik groove. The sounds within are also perfect for a never-ending bicycle ride through the countryside. Or for future DIY space travelling in a homemade rocket ship. From the first sounds of opener and title track ‘CYCLI’ it’s clear we are in a different magnetic field where time has been stripped from its notion. ‘Super 8’ has that same power. ‘Jardim de mar’ breaks away from the repetitive motorik groove. A lazy drum pattern lays a perfect template for an awesome meandering fuzzy guitar this side of Trad, Gras och Stenar. Side B kicks in gear with ‘Meander’ which slowly gets more and more intense until Marijn decides to phase out this monster of a track. Closer ‘Howl Mexican Dog’ thrives around a slightly unsettling mutant rock riff in a song that never really goes anywhere. That’s exactly the point. After the last seconds of this record you may your ask yourself: how long have I been in this DOKA?
